Starting with today’s Not a fish. Wallpaper discriptions will be provided by my lovley wife. Thank you Ann. And in case you missed it over the weekend, Elvis, is orange.

Musicals. Mayhem. Soap.

Moulin Rouge is good. It is very good. Granted, not everyone agrees with me, but musical cinema is a wonderful thing. We have Singin’ in the Rain, Dancer in the Dark, Wizard of Oz, and nearly anything with Fred to prove it. There is some kind of inner joy brought forth by watching a good musical. That same joy that drives people to listen to musical soundtracks learn the songs, and sing them at the slightest provocation. It is fun.

If any of you wondered, the Moulin Rouge (which means red windmill) is a real place, still operating in Paris. Where scantily clad dancers still do their can-can thing. And they are still as weird as they are in the movie. The official website, says this about Mrs. Février, who prepares feathers for the Moulin Rouge.

“…There she receives raw feathers from every corner of the world, she brushes, washes and boiles them, and then she beats and dyes them. Mrs. Février is very demanding, so she refuses to let out of her workshop any feather that would not have been tested for its highlights and heat-proof qualities. Wasn't Mistinguett herself the first one who wore feathered hats designed by Mrs. Février ? Did Josephine Baker, Line Renaud and Zizi Jeanmaire not climb these stairs, rue du Mail, to become even more impregnated with their ‘light costume’? ”

Right. You got all that? Me too. But wait, there’s more. [more...]

Pretty pictures.

I found a place with pretty pictures. The Devoted Bee has a very cool unique style. Be sure to check out the adventures of eggpants.

Also, new shirts at the MintChaos store featuring Hummus.

Bank (n)one.

We’ve been in chicago for 4 months and we still don’t have a local bank account. This is mainly because we’ve had to send our money out faster than we were making it. So we would mail deposits in to Michigan. Write checks on them the same day. And pray that everything would go through in the correct order. But we are finally ahead so today we went on a mission. A mission to access money locally. We are back at home now. We still don’t have an account. Apparently you need two forms of ID. We have lots of forms of ID but not the right two. The only acceptable ID each had was our driver’s licenses. What we had with us that didn't work:

  • Our old Visa/Mastercard bank cards: If they had been real credit cards they would have been acceptable.
  • College ID cards: Not current enough.
  • Social security cards: Of course not, that would be silly.
  • Sam’s cards: Nope.
  • Insurance cards: This would work. If we were elderly or disabled.
  • Copy cards from the SAU library: First we must posses an acount before we can copy one. Silly us.
  • A flock of library cards: No.

Stupid Bank One. Now we search for passports the only other acceptable ID that we have. Ann’s was just located. At her parent’s house. Mine, is somewhere. I guess that’s what we get for being responsible college students and not loading up with credit cards.

“One fat. Two fat. Red fat. Blue fat.”

I’ve been watching this comment thread evolve all weekend. I’m not sure what I think about it yet. I guess I feel a little bit like Piro when he doesn’t understand how people can react negatively to something that he does out of love. MintChaos.com is far from perfect. But it is a personal project, and it’s only two months old. It is inconsistent and unfocused. The only real force behind the weblog portion of MintChaos.com is a personal determination to make myself write. Because I have avoided it for most of my life. As a result, my writing tends to be forced and full of technical errors. I’m working on it.

As for MintChaos not being wallpapery enough. Is there a way certain types of sites should function? These three popular webcomic sites suggest otherwise. Things might change once I get around to retooling MintChaos.com, but for now we have a layout that was created before I knew where MintChaos.com would go. If you must have a wallpaper centric layout please reset your bookmarks to www.mintchaos.com/wallpaper/, the proper home of the wallpaper archives. It has been here the entire time.

If any of you would like to critique something that would be useful to me, critique the wallpaper. What works? What doesn’t? What makes you want to use something as a wallpaper?

Not all comments were negative, most were not. I do appreciate the feedback.

While pondering these things, I took the time to set up a MintChaos store Currently there are t-shirts available featuring both the green and pink basketskulls.

I bore my wife.

I have been instructed to post something to my site because she, and I quote, “I’m getting bored with it.” So, here it is.

Also, berry got herself a Blackhaven. Ahh sweet DynDSN. I’ve started a fad.

New wallpaper: Green basketskull. I like it.

Rupert has a home.

Everyone, I would like you to meet Rupert. As he now has a home. He also has a custom error page. Rupert I should explain, is my personal computer. His DNS is being provided (for free) by the good folks at DynDNS. Who offer a wide range of services on a free/donation basis. All I had to do was install a daemon process that informs the DynDNS people whenever my ip changes. Sweet.

A whole new wallpaper!

“I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?

I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride

A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we’re only dreaming

A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I’m way up here
It’s crystal clear
That now I’m in a whole new world with you
Now I’m in a whole new world with you”

The above is at the begining of this post, as i was informed that this would be a better location.

A new wallpaper has happened. Hatman was mangled in the GIMP. The opensource photoshop wannabe. It has a number of very cool features, its scripting support for example, but needs a massive interface overhaul.

Celldwell.com, the latest project of Klayton (the man who brought us Circle of Dust). Has received a bit a redesign, reflecting the design of Celldweller’s first album, which is set to hit shelves any time now. Which is quite good. from what I’ve heard, which is more than most people. Follow this link, then check out street team studio visit. If you hit the open square in the top left you’ll get to see a picture of me. There are also wallpapers, and music.

It’s really really fast!

Oh my little web log, I’ve been neglecting you. I don’t know what my excuse was for most of this week but today it was because my new DSL line has been up. And well, I’ve been distracted by well, everything. I have upgraded all of my programs and system software that has been acting up ever since I repartitioned my system a couple of weeks ago. Rebulit a good chunk of my MP3 collection that I lost at school last year. looked at many websites (quickly). Downloaded the new version of Mozilla (at 137kps). Discovered that this site’s CSS breaks in Mozzilla (sorry about that, i’ll get on it). Sat with my wife and watched nearly all of the recent trailers on apple’s trailer site. Reloaded complicated webpages that killed my modem for the fun of seeing them happen fast. Called people while downloading things. Marveled at the little blinking lights on my new DSL modem. Danced to new music with my wife. It’s a whole new world.

UPDATE 4.15.02 2PM: Alternate ending: Its a brave new world.

An apology of sorts.

There was no wednesday wallpaper this week on account of spring.

Weekend. Rain. Icky.

We didn’t go see MINIs yesterday. Our visit was vetoed by the cold rainy weather. Today was worse. I got to deliver furniture in it. I am seriously considering quitting my job. It is sucking my life, and I am getting nothing out of it except a sore body and a McDonald’s style paycheck. I’ll probably stick it out till may. Maybe I’ll find a new job that will buy me a MINI as a signing bonus. ^_^

We did, however have a party after night-church. We made up some Jell-o, brownies, broke out the fondue pot, and put out an open invitation at church. What we learned:

  • 28 people, ages 1-50 fit in our apartment.
  • There are a lot of neat people in our church.
  • Ryan Blakemore is the only person I’ve ever seen get consistent “A”s his first time ever playing Samba De Amigo.
  • Food multiplies. We started with 1 pot of cheese fondue, 1 pan of Jell-o jigglers, and 1 pan of brownies. After everyone had left we had 3 liters of soda, 1-½ pumpkin pies, ½ gallon of apple juice, and 1 full bag of Doritos.
  • We should do that more often.

It came from the web.

  • The Morning News: An attractive daily news complation site, with well written features.
  • |334 g00g|3: Google speaks leet. Largo would be proud.
  • CSS info: The CSS work, writings and links of Eric Meyer. He does a lot fo things that are worth checking out. The proud host of the 100% CSS Christmas Tree. Change your text size and see what happens to that one.
  • favelets: The ever useful browser favelets from Tantek Çelik.

I will call it MINI visit.

Tomorrow, we are goin to schaumberg. There is a MINI dealership there. I want to press the MINIs’ buttons. Hmm... Maybe even drive a MINI. Yay. And just incase my last post didn’t have enough, here are more links to the MINI website. Which i enjoy looking at. “Soon small will be huge, the way bad is good.” Bonus link: here.

My new (small) obsession.

I want a MINI. You want a MINI. Everyone wants a MINI. They are small and cute and proud of the fact that they drive like go-karts. I even went to miniusa.com and built my own MINI. I want a Cooper S with all the fixin’s. Ann made me check the price on the Cooper because it was cheaper, but once I added all the options I wanted the price isn’t that much different. BMW makes MINIs now and they list of features are amazing for a tiny car with a base price of $20,000. I need a real job so i can get a MINI. MINI MINI MINI.

Go to the MINI website. It is very well done and fun. They’ll even tell you to leave if you stay too long, to protect your eyes of course. MINI.

Goodbye GIA.

The GIA is over. Thus bringing to end 4 years worth of TMBG themed captions. Given its nature, it lasted a good long time. Various portions of it are in the process of building a GameForms. It will launch May 1st. I wonder if it will be as cool as a GameLoaf.

Rockin’ the suburbs.

Your friday wallpaper served fresh and early. It has a fly with super powers. He can fly.

I live in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park. Which is filled with Elm trees. Oak Park is 3miles square. It has:

  • As many residents as the city of Jackson, MI.
  • 2 Post Offices.
  • Over 22 churches per square mile.
  • Service by both the Chicago and the suburban bus lines
  • Two rapid transport lines. To get the the big city in a hurry.
  • Pizza and hot dogs that put the rest of the world’s to shame.
  • The Flat Top Grill; a classy mongolian BBQ with better ingredients, and they bring your food to you once it’s cooked.
  • Did I mention the pizza?
  • My wife.

Yes, I think I am glad I live here.

Swak it up.

Former mintchaos.com parasite Brian. Has left for greener pastures. He has a new home over at www.joechip.net/brian/. Every body wave and say “Bye Brian.”

But this is not the end of the MintChaos hosting adventures. Soon the honorable n0sh will be around.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Something big may very well be coming back.

Pollo means chicken.

I have a culinary muscle, it has been flexed. I created chicken burritos, that, if I do say so my self were darn good. The recipe follows: [more...]

Monday. Wallpaper.

It’s April fool’s day. I have nothing particularly foolish to present, so here’s a wallpaper.

I had a wonderful weekend with my wife. Which we needed. We ended up breaking out her old nes and playing Super Mario Brothers 3 till we got sick of trying to dodge cannons in world 8. Then after a while, we did it again. It was vary cathartic. Ann hordes froggy suits like you wouldn’t believe.

I have learned that one of my wife’s mother’s friends reads my web site every day and she thinks it is “interesting”. Word up Lori.

UPDATE: I was misinformed. Lori thinks this site is “unusual”.
