Recently, I read Shampoo Planet. And as I went through the book, I was often broadsided by the apparent homages I saw Fight Club (the movie) making. It made my read-through all the more fascinating.
So naturally, the next book I picked up was Fight Club. And what I found in the pages of Pahlanuik's first novel was not exactly what I was expecting. In the process of reading, what I initially viewed as homages, turned into satire as between the lines of Fight Club, I saw a somewhat sardonic response to Shampoo Planet.
Now I am left with so many thoughts, that I'm taking notes to write an essay-- a paper.
I am left with so much to say, that I have nothing to say. Intimidated by everything that might come out if I do so.
So I leave you with this: Shampoo Planet and Fight Club taste great if taken in the context of one another.

Posted by: n0sh on September 21, 2003 10:15 PMi'm disappointed. for somebody who has read nearly everything by that particular author (of shampoo planet), i'm surprised your pop-culture-ese isn't at least -slightly- more up-to-date.
Posted by: streu on September 23, 2003 01:43 PM*sigh* No, I don't mean I don't get your expression. I mean I don't get what it refers to. What's less filling? Shampoo Planet? Fight Club? The book? The movie?
And, most importantly, why would you say so?
