I See Living People

Hey Nostradamus by Douglas Coupland:

It occurs to me, somewhat early on that this book is something of a ghost story. This only clicked for me because the first character in the book was, quite literally, a ghost.

But as the story progresses, there's something of a Sixth-Sense feel to the lives that the survivors are living. As if, in some fundamental way, the characters surrounding the girl who died, died with her.

The book has a most evocative and grey taste to it. Thus far, the word 'sensitive' sums up the book very well.

Created for One Purpose...

The GW Hobby Center Andrea works for is running a Warhammer 40k Escalation League over the coming two months.

For those not in the know, the point of an escalation league is to give a player time to build up an army while playing it. You start with a 500pt force and every few weeks you add another 500pts to your list. In the end you'll be playing games of 2000pts. This system gives you painting/assembling milestones as well as allowing a narrative growth of your army. Having a few games between each stage of expansion allows you to identify current weaknesses in your list and patch the holes with each increase of points as well as tell a story if only in your mind as force organization slots open up and models move into different places in the command structure.

I've decided that this series of events is a perfect excuse to get my Dark Eldar force (which is maybe 1000pts when you count unpainted models pimped out with incongruous amounts of weapons and wargear) up to standard. I'm going to be shooting for filling out to 1500pts. We'll see what happens after that.

I'm going to endeavor to take pictures of my force as it grows and post them here. I imagine this may inspire Andrea to do the same.

Mmmm Skyscraper

I think I liked Console RPGs better before voice was a standard feature. Honestly-- if it doesn't enhance the experience, why do it? From what I've gleaned of those Star Ocean: Till the End of Time movies, it does not enhance the experience.

Voice alone was the reason I never finished Xenosaga.

I really think if you can't afford to do quality voice in the domestic release, -nobody- is going to complain if you cut the voice altogether. It's not really a feature RPG players are used to dealing with anyway.

While I'm complaining-- where's my domestic release of Mr Driller 2?

Five Minutes of Fame

I'm famous! (scroll down to the bottom of the page)

Finished The Taggerung by Mr. Brian Jaques. It was my first Redwall novel and, I must admit, I was rather impressed. The drama continues at work. My schedule continues to be screwy. Andrea may or may not be coming home with me for Xmas. Jimmy Eat World has a new album pending. The single is available through the iTunes store. Andrea begins her last year of college.

One day the dust will settle.
