Sit in your thinking chair and thi-i-ink...

So, this is the type of question that is now occupying my mind. Sad, I know. Still….

Well no one is getting on this just yet so I thought i'd get te Ball rolling. Top 5 reasons why Steve was so much better then Joe.

1. Steve always wore the same Greet stiped shirt, Joe always has the same shirt but its always diffrent colors which makes it so much tougher to relate.

2. Steve was happy to live in a house with a dog, and a talking salt and pepper shaker, yet Joe had to bring in another dog and a cat, Poor Poor Blue no longer gets all the love.

3. Steve wrote all the songs that joe now just uses.

4. Steve went off to college meaning he is far more intelegent then Joe could ever be.

5. I think Blue liked Seve better as well, because now that Joe took over, Blue had to get a second show where he travels to a magic playroom where he can talk. And that show is really really anoying. So since It was Joe who drove him to the magical playroom and not Steve. I like Steve Better.

(Although Joe has the better Notebook.)

Top reasons why Joe is better than Steve:

1. He's younger looking, which makes it less odd for him to be running around after talking inanimate objects.

2. He goes places, like the doctor and around the neighborhood and in the car/van/whatever. I don't think Steve ever left the house, except to skidoo.

3. He ups the pace a little bit, which is good, because with Steve there were waaaay too many awkward silences. In the words of an old, very bad director I knew: Beat, beat, pawwwwwse.

4. He's smarter. He figures out the clues faster. And he's so good at drawing them, that they sing.

5. Steve looks like a weasel.

Rebuttal: Joe's younger than Steve, not dumber, so that's why he's not in college. Joe introduced a couple of new songs, including the opening song. Joe's shirt has squares, so at least he has his own identifying shape, and helps kids learn colors better, plus he gets to teach children colors through presto, change Joe. And Blue's a she, not a he, man.

(To be fair, you've got a point about the Blue's Room theme--total caca.)

Bottom line: Joe is HOT! Glad I didn't have to watch it when Steve was on . Might as well enjoy what I'm watching with the little one. Wonder if he's married.....(33 y.o. single mom)

Ok...so I've been contemplating this for entirely too long, and after wayyyy too many viewings of Blue's Clues. I'm on child number 3, two of whom have been avid BC fans.

I have to agree with Tim (in spite of the fact that he's not in touch with the gender of the main character; in his defense I must say that Blue's gender isn't exactly an "intuitive" thing). Steve is far better than Joe for many reasons, only some of which I've illustrated below.

1) Steve is genuine. When Steve says "What do you think I should do now?" you're convinced he genuinely needs your help figuring this out (we'll ignore the fact that he's a grown man who can't figure out things which toddlers can). This lends to credibility on his part, and a sense of accomplishment for the young viewer. When Joe says "What do you think I should do now?" the first thing that comes to mind is "...Anyone? ...Anyone?" ("...Bueller? ...Bueller?")

2) Steve has finesse. He blends seamlessly from scene to scene. Joe's skidooing and road trips are pretty clunky.

3) Steve has a sense of humor. You can often find yourself laughing, or at least smiling, at how silly he is. Joe has the sense of humor of a slug.

4) Steve's musical abilities are far superior to Joe's. Note that Steve is a rock star. You can also note that Joe is tone deaf.

5) Steve very obviously went at every episode with a vague structure and flow in mind, and then ad libbed the dialog. His creativity was obvious. Joe's eyes move along with the text written for him on cue cards. I'd be surprised to hear if he interjected any of his own words in the show.

6) Steve made the kids think about the answers to the clues. He very often came up with silly nonsensical answers to the clues, and made the children laugh. Joe gets them every time, and more often than not doesn't even ask Blue if he's right. He just goes right on with the end of the show assuming he's right.

7) Steve always drew his clues in the handy dandy notebook. Joe's clues were drawn by him at first, but now he doesn't even do that. They just go ahead and draw themselves in an instant (and color themselves white while they're at it). *And*, his clues SING. What is up with that?!

8) Steve's friends were all nice and respectfully quiet. Joe's friends all scream and yell at him. Every time we get a letter from Joe's friends we're met with a triple forte "HHHHIIIII JJJJJOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!". I don't know about anyone else, but this gives me a headache.

So, in summary Steve was obviously far better than Joe. We'll miss Steve.

In Joe's defense, however, I must state these 2 things:

1) Joe did a FABULOUS job in his "Wacky wild world" episode. He almost seemed genuine and creative in that one.

2) Steve is a VERY tough act to follow. I think if the show hadn't started with Steve, we'd be happy as pigs in mud with Joe.
