Well, I’ve spent the day working on a major local scholarship and the evening working on a bunch of piddling scholarships that FastWeb turned up. I’ve turned in my FAFSA, made my appointment with Baker for Monday, asked for letters of recommendation from just about everyone I’m in good standing with, so I guess now all that’s left to do is cross my fingers and pray. Wish me luck.
Let’s see, what did we do with our busy days…
Saturday, J had to get up at 5 a.m. for work at 6. He got home (very sleepy) at 2, and we went first to the Xing, then to his folks. We spent several busy hours there, came home and went to bed.
Sunday, rinse and repeat, only this time we went to my parents after the Xing. My mother-in-law bought me birthday presents from Fashion Bug, a new pair of jeans and a pretty dress for the summer weather. I had to have my friend Sharon take it up, though, since her machine does delicate material and mine (her old one) doesn’t.
My sister just got boobs—that sounds so funny, I know. Okay, breast augumentation doesn’t sound much better. Anyway, she’s still hugging very, very gingerly, but she’s quite happy. And my dad just had foot surgery, which he’s not crazy about, but such is life.
Tessa is coming down with a cold, which sucks. Jeremy is worn out from his crazy work schedule, which sucks more. But my apartment is very clean right now, which rules. So I guess things balance out.
Okay, back to work.
With all that Jen has been going through with Connor’s sleeping lately, I was counting myself lucky that Tessa is at an age where that isn’t such an issue anymore. Guess what? Pride goeth before a fall.
Last night, she would not go to sleep. She didn’t just say “no, don’t want to,” she screamed. And screamed. And screamed. Then, after twenty minutes of rest, she screamed some more.
I should have seen it coming. She didn’t take a nap yesterday, just played in her room at naptime instead. Usually I don’t worry about it as long as she gets “down time,” but apparently she didn’t take time to be down during that time. So she was overtired.
I’m at work during her nap today, so I really hope that Daddy gets her to take one. Especially since she didn’t sleep in even after last night’s hysterics.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day. I did my part, wore green and even held a baby named Patrick.
I got to order a really funny DVD this week. The last time I looked for it, it was $30 for a used video from Blockbuster. Now it’s been released to DVD. Yay.
I’m thinking seriously of going back to school and becoming a Vet Tech. The money’s not great, but I could work during the day and be home for Tessa in the evenings—something I couldn’t do with what I have now. Plus, if we should ever move, I’d always be employable because I’d be licensed/certified/registered (depends on state).
The war of the patrons goes on. Today I had two get frustrated with me over events beyond my control. And I still have 2 hours left in my shift. Oh, yay.
That’s it in a nutshell….
The joys of working with the public. I got on the lift at work, a person in a wheelchair was already on it. He asked me what button I wanted, I looked and saw he’d pushed Ground for himself. I smiled and said, “Looks like you’ve already got it.” He paused, glared at me and asked, “Is everybody in this library condicending?” Now, I was being my (perky) self, not seeking to bend over backwards, nothing in my tone to indicate I was feeling sorry for him (which I WASN’T, actually).
So I just forced a smile and said, “I wasn’t aware I was being so. I’m sorry.” The lift stopped, he rudely pushed past me to get out, and (this was a little snappish, I admit) I said “After you.” He kept talking, but I stopped listening after that.
Honestly! Doing some self-examination, I don’t think my attitude was ANY different than with anyone else I’d encounter in the lift. I should have just kept to my normal policy of riding alone.
Oh, and I just found out, same guy did the SAME THING to a co-worker, just before verbally assulting me.
I wish I’d seen this website when I was living in Wisconsin. Or even this past winter.
February is finally over! I expect better things of March.
Did anyone watch the Oscars last night? LOTR made the triple-tie, clean sweep! In the words of Billy Crystal, “There is no one left in New Zealand to thank.”
That’s about it from my neck of the woods.
