the Pineapple
When I found this pedestal at a small shop in the Vale of Paradise, I knew I must have it. The shop owner told me it represented a pineapple, which is a symbol of hospitality. I was intrigued that the top of the seat itself was carved like a misericord. The thick wooden petals of a small unfolding flower open in the center of spreading leaves surrounded by a gutter. I was told it isn’t comfortable to sit on, but I’ve found it is an artful way to juice an orange.
